Alfama and Downtown Lisbon: Semi-Private

From EUR 25

Max group size =12 people

Every story needs a beginning and with a city as old as Lisbon, ours is no different. And so our story begins in Lisbon's birthplace, the Alfama. Lisbon's oldest and most famous quarter, and the home of Lisbon's haunting soundtrack 'Fado'.

We will discover Lisbon under Moorish occupation and its brutal reconquest, the oppression of the Jews and senseless slaughter of the Inquisition.

Then to the Baixa where we shake the city to its core with the destructive earthquake of 1755 and start the momentous task of rebuilding.

We finish with Portugal's struggle to stay neutral during WWII and the difficulties during Salazar's dictatorship and the eventual Carnation Revolution.

Meeting point:

10 am on selected days at the equestrian statue of Jose I in Praça do Comercio.

Tour is subject to cancellation if there are less than 3 people signed up for the tour.
